FRIENDS OF BATES BEACH PARTICIPATES IN
THE ANNUAL CALIFORNIA BEACH CLEANUP DAY

Photos of the 2009 Bates Beach cleanup. About 20 bags (800 pounds) of trash were filled.

Friends of Bates Beach are strong environmentalists, and have a reputation for keeping the beach clean, far cleaner than other comparable beaches.

For the past five years, members of Friends of Bates Beach have organized or participated in Cleanup Days several times a year to help clean the beach, from the concrete barrier on the north to the Point on the south.

The third Saturday of each September, the Santa Barbara County Department of Public Works and the California Coastal Commission jointly coordinate the Coastal Cleanup Day, where beaches long the ebtire state are cleaned by an army of volunteers.
