Directions to Avila Beach
(Pirate's Cove), San Luis Obispo

|
Avila Beach is about a 3 hour drive north of Los Angeles.
From Los Angeles, take the 101 (Ventura) freeway north past the cities of Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, about a 3 hr drive. About 10 miles before the city of San Luis Obispo, you will pass thru the town of Pismo Beach.
Take the Avila road exit off Hwy 101 (the sign will designate it as the way to Avila Beach and the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant.) Head west for about two miles. You will pass the Sycamore Springs resort on the right (north) side of the road.
Look for a narrow 2-lane road on the left named Cave Landing. This is about a mile before you reach the public Avila Beach. Turn left onto Cave Landing and drive up to the top of the hill.
At the top of the hill the road angles left. There is a dirt parking lot on the right (ocean) side of the road. Park here. The trail down to to Pirate's Cove and the nude beach is on the eastern side of the cliff. It is rather steep in places so take your time. It is worth it!
